James Roberts is an artist and writer whose work celebrates wild creatures and places. He works from the Cambrian Mountains of Wales.

STORIES
James publishes a weekly illustrated story series about wonder and the wild – Into the Deep Woods – on Substack, whcre a comprehensive archive of his short essays can be found from a ten year period of writing.

RIVER WOOD STUDIO
River Wood is James’ studio, based in Rhayader, Powys. It is a five minute drive from the famous Elan Valley, the Lake District of Wales.
The studio also acts as a gallery and bookshop, displaying small artworks as well as a selection of nature titles.

TWO LIGHTS
Published in 2023 by September Publishing, TWO LIGHTS is a non-fiction book exploring wonder, wildness and the toll of the biodiversity crisis through the prism of twilight. It was longlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize for writing about place.
TEACHING
James teaches workshops for artists, activists and business people using creative techniques to encourage a closer connection to the natural world. Workshops are hosted at his studio, or online for people who cannot get to the Cambrian Mountains.
