Fishing Bear

Fishing Bear is one of a series of bear paintings which is constantly evolving. Bears, to me, represent the ultimate in wildness in the temperate areas of the world, and though long gone from my homeland are still present in many places in Europe. The ink foreground in this piece was added in a sliding motion with a large Chinese brush to produce the effect of moving water.

“My artworks are a response to the movement of the wild, the endless transitions, the appearances and disappearances of forms, the half seen and half lit.  Ancient Chinese poets believed that the world, the ten thousand things, appeared out of nothing, danced for a while, then returned to where they came from, to emerge later in other forms. It is the perfect way to think about nature, and about art.”
