Mountain Fox

Mountain Fox was inspired by several encounters with a wild fox in the upland landscapes of Wales. One of the most storied animals in world literature, foxes are trickster figures, wise and foolish, filled with the spirit and craft of the wild. This work was created using Indian ink, salt and acrylic white ink, requiring many layers to build the intricate textures and flows of the finished piece.

“My artworks are a response to the movement of the wild, the endless transitions, the appearances and disappearances of forms, the half seen and half lit.  Ancient Chinese poets believed that the world, the ten thousand things, appeared out of nothing, danced for a while, then returned to where they came from, to emerge later in other forms. It is the perfect way to think about nature, and about art.”
