Running Hare

Running Hare was inspired by many encounters with wild hares on a hill above my home in Wales. They are almost invisible as they hide in deep bracken, but as you (almost accidentally) approach they suddenly appear in front of you running full tilt across the hill, a puff of dust behind each footfall. This artwork attempts to express the dynamism of their movement.

“My artworks are a response to the movement of the wild, the endless transitions, the appearances and disappearances of forms, the half seen and half lit.  Ancient Chinese poets believed that the world, the ten thousand things, appeared out of nothing, danced for a while, then returned to where they came from, to emerge later in other forms. It is the perfect way to think about nature, and about art.”
